Everton defender Sylvain Distin insists that he has no regrets over failing to win an international cap during his career.

Everton defender Sylvain Distin is adamant that he has no regrets over failing to earn international recognition during his career.

Distin has never been picked by France during his stellar career, despite playing over 400 times in the Premier League for a string of clubs including Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Manchester City.

The 35-year-old believes that his career may taken a different path if he played for Les Blues, but thinks that he can be happy with his achievements to date.

He told Everton's official website: "People ask me sometimes if I've got regrets regarding me not playing for France and I don't because look where I've got now.

"I'm 35, I'm in a great club, I enjoy my football, I'm fit, I feel good, there is a great atmosphere where I am, why should I have regrets? Maybe if I'd played for France I wouldn't be here, I'd be at another club, I wouldn't enjoy it, maybe I wouldn't be so down to earth, maybe I'd have a big ego."

"I'm really happy with what I've got and I'm really happy with what I've done and if I had to do it all again, I'd do it exactly the same way."

Distin last played in his native country for Paris Saint-Germain back in 2001.
