Everton remove Romelu Lukaku video that supported Nicolas Anelka

Everton remove a video on their website of Romelu Lukaku speaking out in support of Nicolas Anelka's 'quenelle' gesture.

Everton have distanced themselves from comments made by Romelu Lukaku that supported Nicolas Anelka over the West Bromwich Albion striker's anti-semitic 'quenelle' gesture.

The Frenchman was charged for his offensive goal celebration by the Football Association, but Lukaku came out in support of his "idol" in a video interview conducted by Sky Sports News that was posted on the Blues' official website on Tuesday afternoon.

However, Everton have since removed the video and director of communications Alan Myers told PA Sport: "It is the player's opinion and not the opinion held by the football club.

"We moved quickly to remove any interview that may have been offensive to anyone. The last thing we want to do is cause offence to anyone."

The Blues have reportedly not spoken to their on-loan Belgian striker, who is an ambassador for anti-racism group Kick It Out, about his comments.
