Phil Jagielka facing late fitness test for Everton

Everton manager Roberto Martinez reveals that Phil Jagielka will undergo a late fitness test ahead of Tuesday's trip to Newcastle United.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that Phil Jagielka faces a late fitness test ahead of Tuesday's trip to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The defender has been sidelined since the start of the month with a hamstring injury and despite admitting that Jagielka is back to full fitness, Martinez is wary to throw the England international back into action.

"Phil Jagielka is medically fully fit. We are going to a make a decision on him tomorrow," the Spaniard told the club's official website.

"Phil has been desperate on the sidelines to play and that develops a real desire. He brings a real enthusiasm and is a true leader. You want these players to be on the pitch and available but sometimes you have to accept injuries will happen."

Everton are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table.
