Getafe president Angel Torres has revealed that Luis Garcia has been relieved of his managerial duties with the Spanish outfit.
The capital side have not won in La Liga since beating Levante at the end of November, a run that stretches back 12 league matches.
That run of form has left them just a point outside the relegation zone, and Torres has admitted that "a change of direction is needed".
"I wish the best to Luis Garcia and all his staff. He was a great professional and I wish him well," Torres told reporters at a press conference.
"Perhaps a change of direction is needed for us to have another year in the Primera. We're not so far in decline we can't be saved.
"The important thing is that the team pulls up the table. We close the door on the past, wish the new coach the best of luck and hope he meets the goal of being in La Liga next season."
Former Getafe player Cosmin Contra has been appointed as the new head coach on a reported short-term deal.
