Mike Phelan confirms Hull City offer

Mike Phelan, speaking after Saturday's defeat to Arsenal, reveals that he has been offered the chance to become Hull City's permanent manager.

Mike Phelan has revealed that he has been offered the chance to become Hull City's permanent manager.

The 53-year-old was placed in interim charge of the Tigers before the start of the 2016-17 Premier League season after Steve Bruce left his role due to disagreements with the owners.

Phelan has led Hull to two wins, one draw and two defeats from their five league matches this season, and the former Manchester United assistant boss has confirmed that he has now received a full-time offer from the club.

"An offer has been made but it came 36-48 hours ago and in the build-up to this game so it was put to one side. I can sit down now, see where we go and discuss it with the owners and I am sure something will be resolved," Phelan told reporters.

"It's never a nice thing to have hanging there when you have just lost 4-1 but I think what has happened before is good enough to talk about the permanent role and I am looking forward to it."

Ten-man Hull suffered a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
