Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has expressed his delight at his side's Championship victory over Millwall.

The Tractor Boys claimed their first points of the season with a 3-0 win at Portman Road.

After an opening day defeat to Reading and a midweek loss at League One outfit Stevenage in the Capital One Cup, McCarthy was pleased to see his side win their first game of the season.

"We are all delighted we have won the game," he told Sky Sports News.

"We didn't want to have no points two games in, it was important we had something on the board."

Ipswich took the lead after the hour mark through a Shane Lowry own goal before strikes from Tommy Smith and Paul Anderson sealed the victory, but McCarthy felt that his side fully deserved their win.

"There was an element of good fortune perhaps," he said. "I think it was a good bit of play by us. In the second half we played better and we deserved the win."

Ipswich face Queens Park Rangers in their next Championship fixture on August 17.
