Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan both returned to MLS action as Los Angeles Galaxy suffered a home defeat at the hands of Real Salt Lake on the opening day.
31-year-old Keane, playing his first game since leaving Aston Villa, spurned two excellent chances to give the hosts the lead after being set up by Mike Magee and Marcelo Sarvas.
Galaxy did make the breakthrough after 71 minutes when David Beckham's cross was powered home by the head of Edson Buddle.
The lead was cancelled out almost instantly when Sean Franklin clumsily diverted the ball past his own goalkeeper.
Things went from bad to worse for Galaxy on 80 minutes, as substitute Javier Morales fired a low left-footed drive in to the bottom left corner.
Salt Lake wrapped up the win five minutes from time, as Fabian Espindola slammed home following a Alvaro Saborio flick-on.
