Norwich City claim vital win over Leeds United

Goals from Jonny Howson and Graham Dorrans earn Norwich City a 2-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road.

Norwich City continued their bid for automatic promotion by beating Leeds United 2-0 at Elland Road this evening.

Despite enjoying more of the possession, Norwich were left frustrated for long spells of the first half as an impressive start from the Leeds defence restricted the opportunities on offer for the visitors.

Leeds were growing in confidence as the game progressed, but the hosts should have fallen behind when Jonny Howson won a penalty after going down under pressure from Gaetano Berardi.

However, Graham Dorrans failed to capitalise from 12 yards as the midfielder rattled the crossbar with his penalty.

Dorrans, on loan at the club from West Bromwich Albion, was handed another chance a few moments later, but he could only fire over from the edge of the box after benefiting from Cameron Jerome's deflected cross.

Leeds were pushed further back after the break as Norwich dominated possession, and the visitors were finally rewarded with the opening goal just before the hour mark.

Nathan Redmond exchanged passes with Jerome on the left wing before cutting inside to find Howson, who kept his composure in the box to find the back of the net with a fine finish against his former side.

Leeds enjoyed a spell on top after falling behind, but some stubborn defending from the Canaries kept them in front as Russell Martin made a vital block to deny Scott Wootton.

Alex Neil's side controlled the game in the latter stages and they survived the rare spells of Leeds pressure before securing the win in stoppage time, when Dorrans made up for his earlier misses by firing home after clever work from Jerome.
