Liverpool legend John Aldridge expects Daniel Agger to endure a spell on the substitutes' bench due to Brendan Rodgers's recent change in formation.
Rodgers recently introduced a loose 3-5-2 formation to utilise defensive trio Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel, while Agger was out injured.
The Dane was named as a sub for Sunday's 3-1 win against Sunderland, and Aldridge feels that the vice-captain will have to work hard to regain his place.
"The three lads who played at the Stadium of Light performed very well," Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
"Sometimes when the team is playing well and you've missed out through injury, you just have to bite the bullet and wait for your opportunity to come again, [and] I think that may be the case for Daniel. It would be unfair to leave out any of the back three who have played in the last two games.
"I am not usually a fan of the formation Rodgers has introduced in the last two matches but I have to say it suits the clientele at his disposal."
The Reds are currently second in the Premier League.
