John Barnes: Liverpool need three world-class players

John Barnes believes that a lack of quality within the playing squad is holding Liverpool back this season.

Former Liverpool player John Barnes has claimed that the club need to add at least three world-class players to their squad.

Kenny Dalglish's side have struggled in the Premier League this season and Barnes believes that it is due to a lack of quality players at Anfield.

The 48-year-old said: "How many of these Liverpool players would get in any of the other top teams? I think they have a distinct lack of quality.

"For the last five or six years I have always said Liverpool need to buy players to go into the first team.

"Three world-class players, shall we say, to go straight into the team and supplement [Steven] Gerrard and [Luis] Suarez."

Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League table.
