Kenny Dalglish believes that Liverpool is "more important" than an individual player.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish believes that striker Andy Carroll “understands” his role at the Merseyside club and admits that he is not guaranteed a starting place.

The 22-year-old, who signed for the Reds from Newcastle for £35m in January, has come under criticism for failing to make an impact at Anfield.

Despite the negativity targeted towards the frontman, Dalglish is adamant that no player is bigger than the club.

"Andy is a professional footballer who understands what goes on in football," said Dalglish.

"He worked really hard at Tottenham. We don't have a team, we have a squad. There will be times when someone will play and others won't.

"Sometimes you'll be lucky and sometimes you'll be unlucky. But the football club is more important than one individual - including myself. I'm sure the players realise that.”

Liverpool take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield this weekend in the Premier League.
