Kenny Dalglish slams media "obsession" with Andy Carroll

Kenny Dalglish hits out at recent questions over £35m signing Andy Carroll's contribution to the club.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has slammed recent questions over club-record signing Andy Carroll's contribution to the club.

The Scot, who insists that all signings are treated the same regardless of price, has criticised the singling-out of the former Newcastle player, but maintains that the striker will prove his worth to the club.

"We did the business in January and we were delighted with what we did. End of story," Dalglish said. "I don't understand the obsession. There are other players who haven't played either. I think people are obsessed with Andy Carroll.

"Everyone will be treated in exactly the same way here, whether they are the most expensive or the cheapest. The price tag is irrelevant. If we get someone in on a Bosman, does that mean he is rubbish?

"We've spoken in the past about Andy being one for the future, not just the short term."

Carroll, who became the most expensive British signing ever when he joined Liverpool for a fee of £35m, has scored three goals in 14 appearances for the club.
