Ray Houghton: 'Liverpool don't deserve to be champions'

Ray Houghton believes that Liverpool do not deserve to win the Premier League title this season because they have conceded too many goals in recent weeks.

Former Liverpool midfielder Ray Houghton has claimed that the team do not deserve to win the Premier League title this season because of the number of goals they have conceded in their last few games.

The Reds threw away a three-goal lead against Crystal Palace on Monday evening to leave Selhurst Park with a 3-3 draw.

Houghton, who helped Liverpool to win their last league title in 1990, feels that Brendan Rodgers's side have paid the price for poor defending.

"I think Brendan Rodgers's words after the Chelsea game will probably come back to haunt him," Houghton told BBC Radio 5 live.

"He said you can get anyone to get 10 players behind the ball to make it difficult. Liverpool couldn't do that last night could they?

"It was in Liverpool's hands but in the last four league games they've conceded nine goals. That is not the form of champions."

Liverpool are now a point clear at the top of the table, but Manchester City require four points from their final two games to claim the title.
