Adam Lallana: 'Rickie Lambert goal not far away'

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana backs teammate Rickie Lambert to open his goalscoring account for Liverpool sooner rather than later.

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has insisted that teammate Rickie Lambert is "not too far away" from opening his account for the Merseyside club.

The pair both joined Liverpool from Southampton during the summer, but Lambert has been largely limited to a bit-part role at Anfield so far, usually featuring off the bench for Brendan Rodgers's side.

However, Lallana is confident that the 32-year-old will break his duck sooner rather than later as he edges back to 100% fitness.

"I still have to pinch myself that we are both playing for Liverpool," Lallana told reporters.

"It is a great journey we have been on and it has been difficult for him because he has not had the regular games which he would have at Southampton.

"But I can assure you he is working so hard to get himself back to 100% sharpness. It is coming, he is gradually getting there, and I am sure his first goal is not too far away."

Lallana opened his own account for his new club during the 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on Saturday.
