Liverpool's James Milner says that he wants to keep his place at left-back to stop Jurgen Klopp from replacing him with a new face in the January transfer window.

James Milner has claimed that he wants to continue playing at left-back for Liverpool, despite it not being his natural position.

The 30-year-old, who has played as a winger and in the middle of the park, has become first-choice left-back ahead of Alberto Moreno this season.

The former England international is hopeful that he can convince manager Jurgen Klopp against buying a player more suited to that position when the transfer window reopens in January.

"It is down to me to make sure they don't buy a left-back," the Liverpool Echo quotes Milner as saying. "[Klopp] doesn't owe me anything. I am a Liverpool player, he is the manager, he picks the best team to win and it is my job to make sure that what is best for Liverpool is me.

"You read a lot about players not being honourable and loyal, but clubs are not loyal to players either. But we know what business it is."

Liverpool have had a strong start to the season by winning eight of their 12 Premier League games and losing just one, which has left them second in the table, one point behind Chelsea at this stage of the campaign.
