Brendan Rodgers fumes over Jose Mourinho tactics

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers slams Jose Mourinho for the tactics that he employed in Chelsea's 2-0 win at Anfield.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has criticised Jose Mourinho for the tactics that he employed in Chelsea's 2-0 win at Anfield this afternoon.

Goals at the end of each half from Demba Ba and Willian saw the Blues blow the Premier League title race wide open and end the Reds' 11-game winning streak in the process.

Rodgers's men had averaged more than three goals per game throughout that purple patch but struggled to break down a resolute Chelsea defence on Merseyside today, something which the Northern Irishman attributes to Mourinho's strategy.

"Unless you can score that early goal you can't entice the opposition to come up," he told BBC Sport at full time.

"It was clear that they had not come here to win the game with the time-wasting and what not. The players gave everything, we just couldn't get that wee bit of luck.

"I don't think it's a tactic to get players behind the ball. You could get anyone to get everyone back and defend on the edge of the box."

Ba capitalised on an error in midfield by Steven Gerrard before racing through to slot past Simon Mignolet shortly before the break, while the Brazilian put the result beyond doubt in the closing stages.

The Merseysiders remain at the summit of the table, two points clear of Mourinho's side and three ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
