Brendan Rodgers: 'Raheem Sterling deserves England call-up'

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says that Raheem Sterling's England call-up is fully warranted.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Raheem Sterling and believes that his England call-up is fully warranted.

The youngster has been included in the Three Lions squad that plays Denmark in a friendly next week, and Rodgers has argued that there hasn't been a more consistent English winger in recent months.

He told the club's official website: "There's no doubt in his position that he's one of the best players in England. Over the course of these last few months, you could argue there hasn't been anyone better than him in the England squad in that position.

"It's a great reward for him, his maturity and how he's approached the pressures of playing because he's played with a wonderful freedom and is working very, very hard for the team.

"He's very deserving of his opportunity."

Liverpool will also be represented by Jordan Henderson, Glen Johnson, Daniel Sturridge and national team captain Steven Gerrard.
