Brendan Rodgers wants earlier transfer deadline

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers reveals that he would like the transfer window to shut before the start of the Premier League season.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has called for the transfer window to end before the start of the Premier League season.

This year's deadline for signing players comes at 11pm on September 2, at which point the league season will be three games old with most clubs having also played in domestic or continental cup competitions.

Rodgers thinks that players being able to look for a way out of clubs after a season has started is "morally wrong" and believes that having the window end so late makes it very difficult for managers.

"I just think there's something morally not right when players are sat in a changing room and the season has already kicked off, you are under way in your job and - I'm sure in every changing room around the country, no matter what level - there will be players asked, and agents working to get them to other clubs," Rodgers told PA.

"I think that makes it ultra-difficult."

Rodgers's Liverpool side have won both of their opening Premier League fixtures and will be looking to make it three wins from three when they face Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
