Danny Simpson has said that he hopes former teammate Andy Carroll receives a warm welcome when Liverpool take on Newcastle United on Sunday.
Carroll left St James' Park for Anfield in January last year for £35m.
"I'm sure he's looking forward to coming back up here and hopefully he'll get a good reception," Simpson said.
"It's been tough for him but people forget he's still young. He didn't ask for that price tag, obviously Liverpool put that on him.
"He's still got the quality, still a threat and still dangerous so we're going to have to be aware of him."
Newcastle are currently sixth in the Premier League, seven points ahead of Liverpool.
