Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho says that his players fought "like animals" during their dramatic 3-2 win over Manchester City tonight.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has said that his players fought "like animals" during their 3-2 win over Manchester City tonight.

The champions of Spain overcame their English counterparts in their Champions League Group D opener, after Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo both scored during the final three minutes at the Bernabeu.

"This is why people love football around the world," said Mourinho. "More important than winning is to be proud of my team whatever the result.

"I keep saying this to players. When things were not going in the right direction, Real Madrid can lose, they can lose matches, they can lose matches fighting like animals right until the end like they did."

Real visit the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, November 21.
