Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini backs Sergio Aguero for golden boot

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is backing Sergio Aguero to finish as the Premier League's top scorer for a second successive season.

Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that it will be hard for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero to not win the Premier League's golden boot for a second straight season given the form that he is in.

Aguero hit a hat-trick on Saturday evening to fire City past Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, drawing level with Jamie Vardy in second and one behind Harry Kane at the top of the scoring charts.

However, the England duo both scored in games on Sunday on Monday, so Aguero is one behind Vardy and three behind Kane, although the Argentine does have a game more to play than both.

Pellegrini said: "He has scored an important amount of goals so he is fighting to be the top scorer in this year also.

"The way that he is playing, especially the last game, I am sure that it will be difficult for the other strikers to keep up with his performances."

Aguero's treble against Chelsea took his Premier League total since joining City to 99 and he can reach a century tonight at Newcastle United.
