Manuel Pellegrini: 'Willy Caballero will be very important'

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini hints that goalkeepers Willy Caballero and Joe Hart will be on a level playing field this season.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that Willy Caballero will be "very important" for the Premier League champions this season.

Argentine goalkeeper Caballero arrived from Malaga this summer and had been expected to act as backup to England international Joe Hart.

However, Pellegrini has hinted that Hart's spot as number one is not assured.

"I have two number one goalkeepers," Pellegrini told reporters.

"I am sure Willy will be very important for us but I also think we have the best goalkeeper in England in Joe Hart.

"Top teams need two players for each position because we have to play so many games during the year."

City face Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday.
