Manuel Pellegrini: Manchester City performance "very encouraging"

Manuel Pellegrini insists that the way Manchester City played against Aston Villa is "very encouraging" following their late-goal salvo at Villa Park.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that he was left feeling "a little worried" during his side's late 2-0 victory against Aston Villa this evening.

The Villans produced a spirited display to keep their opponents out, until Yaya Toure eventually made the breakthrough with eight minutes remaining.

Sergio Aguero's strike shortly after made sure of the points, and Pellegrini was quick to acknowledge the importance of the win.

"When we have just eight minutes to go you are a little worried but I trusted that one of those chances would be scored because we have important players to do that," the 61-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"The way we played was the most important thing for me, we had 70% possession, created chances and that is very encouraging. I have told the players that in May you are going to win or lose the Premier League by just a point or so, so every one you drop on the way makes it more difficult.

"It is very difficult to recover the points against a team like Chelsea and the only way to do it is to win every game."

The Citizens, who are now second in the Premier League table, are back in action in two weeks' time when they host Tottenham Hotspur.
