Manuel Pellegrini: 'Plenty of room for improvement at Manchester City'

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini feels that his side will improve with time to find form and fitness during the next few weeks.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has declared that his side are capable of improving on their fine performance against Newcastle United on Monday.

Pellegrini's first game in charge at the Etihad saw City run out comfortable 4-0 winners against the Magpies, with Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri among the goals in their Premier League opener.

The Chilean believes that his team will get better as they find form and fitness in the early weeks of the campaign, while committing to maintaining an exciting brand of attacking football.

He told The Mirror: "It's always difficult to maintain that level, but we are sure that in a lot of games we are going to be able do it. Maybe sometimes we will win just 1-0, by defending. But we will try to do what we did last Monday in every game.

"Get better? Of course. We can always get better. We will try to improve every week.We are just starting the season. We work only six or seven weeks in pre-season but we are always going to try to improve every week.

"Of course the players must be fitter, but I think we can maintain this without any problems."

City will visit Wales without captain Vincent Kompany this weekend, after the defender was ruled out for at least a month by a groin injury.
