Team News: Joe Allen makes first start for Stoke City

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes hands a first start to Joe Allen for the club's Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has handed a first start to Joe Allen for the club's Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Allen only made the bench for the Potters' 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough last weekend but he comes in for Xherdan Shaqiri, who misses out through injury.

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has also made one alteration to his side for the visit to Staffordshire, with Nolito dropping to the bench.

The Spaniard impressed during City's 5-0 victory over Steaua Bucuresti in midweek but he has been replaced by compatriot Jesus Navas.

As expected, goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero is again preferred to Joe Hart.

Stoke City: Given; Bardsley, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Pieters; Imbula, Whelan; Bojan, Allen, Arnautovic; Diouf
Subs: Haugaard; Muniesa, Adam, Walters, Cameron, Crouch, Ramadan

Manchester City: Caballero; Zabaleta, Stones, Otamendi, Kolarov; Fernandinho, Silva, De Bruyne, Navas, Sterling; Aguero
