Mario Balotelli "too expensive" for Palermo

Mario Balotelli names Palermo as his ideal destination, but the Italian club think he is "too expensive" a signing.

Mario Balotelli has expressed his desire to move to Palermo, but the Italian side think he is "too expensive" to acquire.

The Italian-born Man City striker, 21, has been keen to move back to his homeland this summer but suffered a knockback earlier this month when Napoli branded him "too disruptive".

Yesterday Balotelli named Palermo as his ideal destination, saying: "I would like to go there. It is a nice place - there is the sun."

Palermo recently completed the sale of Javier Pastore for £36m but still think Balotelli comes with too hefty a price tag.

"We had to sell Javier Pastore because of a contract issue. Imagine what we'd be taking on with Mario Balotelli," said president Maurizio Zamparini.

"He is the kind of player for Inter Milan, AC Milan or Juventus and even they would struggle to find the kind of money he gets paid at the moment - let alone Palermo."
