Manchester City will sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred at the end of the season in a £44.5m deal, according to a report.

Manchester City will reportedly sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred at the end of the season in a £44.5m deal.

City were strongly linked with Fred in the latter stages of the January transfer window, but the in-demand attacker ultimately stayed with his Ukrainian club.

Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old, although former Shakhtar boss Mircea Lucescu recently claimed that the Brazil international would join Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium this summer.

According to Goal.com, City have an agreement with Shakhtar that will see Fred move to the Premier League for £44.5m at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

The report also adds that former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva, who represents Fred, helped close the deal.

Fred has scored twice and registered four assists in 24 appearances for Shakhtar this season.
