A throat infection rules Wayne Rooney out of Manchester United's Europa League tie against Ajax tomorrow evening.

Wayne Rooney will miss tomorrow's Europa League tie against Ajax at Old Trafford with a throat infection.

The striker missed training this morning, leading to speculation regarding his availability.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has now confirmed that the 26-year-old is suffering from an illness.

It is not known whether or not Rooney will recover in time for Sunday's Premier League trip to Norwich City.

United head into Thursday's tie with Ajax holding a 2-0 advantage.
