How Manchester United could line up against Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole predicts how Manchester United will line up for Monday's meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

On the back of last weekend's shock 3-2 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has some big selection calls to make when his side welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils suffered defeat in their first away league outing of a season for the first time since 2012, potentially leaving them six points adrift of the pacesetters by the time Monday's match kicks off.

With a number of first-team regulars now back in training, United's starting lineup may have a different look to it for Tottenham's visit.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Mourinho could set out his side for this huge early-season showdown.

Predicted MNU XI vs. TOT
Out: Diogo Dalot, Sergio Romero
Doubtful: Nemanja Matic, Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Alexis Sanchez, Luke Shaw

Matic and Valencia have managed to get some minutes under their belt on the training ground and are likely to be in Mourinho's thoughts for their first starts of the season.

Should that be the case, Andreas Pereira is favourite to make way in central midfield, while Shaw - carrying a knock - could drop out of the backline as part of a reshuffle that sees Ashley Young shift to the left.

Having sat out the loss at Brighton because of injury, Sanchez may not be risked for United's second home match of the season, leaving a spot on the left of the front three up for grabs.

Anthony Martial hardly made the most of his opportunity at the Amex Stadium, so Mourinho may be tempted to pair Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku together, with the returning Jesse Lingard providing a more direct option than Juan Mata on the right.

At the back, meanwhile, questions remain over Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, but Mourinho is expected to retain faith in his centre-back duo while Phil Jones and Chris Smalling watch on.
