Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial out of Watford trip

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal confirms that Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney will miss Saturday's match against Watford.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that captain Wayne Rooney and striker Anthony Martial will miss Saturday's match against Watford.

Martial was already a doubt for the Premier League game after leaving Tuesday's international friendly against England at Wembley on crutches.

Van Gaal has told MUTV that Rooney has also been omitted from the squad due to illness, while Marouane Fellaini is out injured and Antonio Valencia requires 'long-term recovery' after undergoing an operation.

Michael Carrick has also been ruled out of the game after being stretchered off with an ankle injury during England's win over France earlier this week.

The Dutch boss is hopeful that Martial and Rooney will be fit for next week's Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford.
