Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says that he had a "very positive" meeting with the club's incoming minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe on Wednesday.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that he had a "very positive" meeting which lasted "hours" with the club's incoming minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The owner and founder of INEOS was present at the club's Carrington training complex on Wednesday alongside Sir Dave Brailsford, who is set to be heavily involved at Man United moving forward.

Ratcliffe and Brailsford spoke with Ten Hag, his staff and the club's players at Carrington, and the Red Devils head coach has said that the meeting was "very positive".

"Very positive, I have to say. We had a long meeting, so many hours we sit together. On many issues we were on the same page, very positive from both sides," the Dutchman told reporters during his press conference on Thursday, as the team prepare for Monday's FA Cup clash with Wigan Athletic.

"I can say that it was a very constructive meeting and we're looking forward to working with each other.

"We have to let it settle down. They have just come in and are introducing themselves. They have good ideas. We have to see what we can integrate. We have to work. They have given me a few [ideas]. We have our debates. I think we will come together."

Ratcliffe's 25% purchase of Man United was confirmed on December 24, although the deal has still not been ratified by the Premier League and that is unlikely to occur before the end of January.

The 71-year-old is set to take over the football department at the club, and it is understood that he has plans to oversee huge change when it comes to recruitment.

However, Ten Hag is said to be determined to still have a major say in the transfer business at Old Trafford, which has been the case since he arrived as head coach in the summer of 2022.

Ten Hag's future as Man United head coach has been called into question in recent weeks due to the team's disappointing results during the 2023-24 campaign.

The Red Devils have already been beaten 14 times in all competitions this season, with nine of those losses coming in the Premier League.

Man United's 2-1 reverse at Nottingham Forest in the league on Saturday left them in eighth position in the table, nine points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

There will also be no European football at Old Trafford in the second half of the season, with the team finishing bottom of their Champions League section on four points.

However, Ten Hag is expected to be given the chance to oversee change with a stronger squad, as the likes of Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof will soon be available for selection once again.
