Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says his side’s 8-2 rout of Arsenal at Old Trafford was "unusual", but admits he was expecting goals.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said his side’s 8-2 rout of Arsenal was "unusual", but admitted he was expecting goals.

The Red Devils moved to the top of the Premier League on goal difference after the thrashing, having scored 13 times in their first three games of the season.

"It’s unusual because you don’t expect it," he told the club’s official website.

"We’ve had a couple of big results against them in the past, but when you see Arsenal’s team like that, we do expect to score goals. I felt all their quality was in the forward positions and they were a threat at times. They could have scored more than two goals.

“It was a funny game, a strange result but we can only do our jobs and I think the players kept it professional that way and did their best."

The Premier League champions resume their campaign after the upcoming international break with a trip to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, September 10.
