Manchester United midfielder Fred has questioned the Red Devils' decision to appoint Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season.

Following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, the Old Trafford outfit made the decision to trust the German in temporary charge before starting their search for a permanent manager in the summer.

The Brazil international has questioned such a decision, though, saying: "It's a bit strange," as quoted by Daily Mail.

"I know in football it's important to get good results as soon as possible, but it's also important to have a long-term plan. I think it's a little bit bad for us not to have one. At the moment it's all about the short-term goals. We don't know how it's going to be after the end of this season."

Since his appointment, Rangnick has overseen 15 games across all competitions, enjoying eight wins during that time, with Fred coming off the bench to score in the latest of those as they defeated Leeds United 4-2 Sunday, before the German leads the Red Devils into their Champions League round-of-16 first-leg meeting with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

With Rangnick set to take up a consultancy role at Old Trafford in the summer, Manchester United are said to have begun actively searching for a permanent fixture, with Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax boss Erik ten Hag emerging as frontrunners.
