Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera calls for patience to be shown when assessing the performances of Marcus Rashford this season.

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has called for patience when assessing the performances of Marcus Rashford this season.

Rashford burst onto the scene in the second half of last season but has struggled to maintain that momentum this term and is currently without a goal in any competition since September 24.

However, Herrera believes that the 19-year-old is one of the best young players in world football and talked up the youngster's other attributes rather than focusing on his goalscoring drought.

"We have to be patient with Marcus. He is maybe the best talent under 20 years old in the world so he is giving us a lot. But we can't ask him to score in every game and do what he did in his first season when he did what he did in his first five matches I think - something like that," he told reporters.

"Now he is playing left so we have to be patient with him. He gives us a lot of things and the most important thing for me is his defence, the way he reacts when we don't have the ball so we are very happy with him.

"We have talented players up front so we are very happy with that - Anthony [Martial], Marcus, Micki (Henrikh Mkhitaryan) is in a very good moment, Juan [Mata] is always scoring and creating and assisting. We are very good in those positions so we will find the goals."

Rashford has scored only three Premier League goals this season, although that is still more than Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial combined.
