Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho credits Burnley for their display in Saturday's encounter, admitting that his side had to "adapt" at Turf Moor.

Jose Mourinho has praised his Manchester United players for 'adapting' to the challenge of overcoming a resilient Burnley, having seen his side earn a 1-0 victory at Turf Moor.

The Red Devils picked up their fifth win in six away outings through Anthony Martial's strike early in the second half - one of their rare sights of goal in Saturday's tight affair.

United came close to adding a second late on when Martial was denied by Nick Pope, but they also had to stand firm at the back as Burnley put in a number of crosses in search of a second successive draw in this fixture.

After seeing his side hold on for all three points, Mourinho told the assembled press: "It's a different kind of performance that you try to have, but what you need against a great team like Burnley.

"We know the way they play. They are better than anyone playing that way. And you need to adapt. You meed to adapt to be successful. We adapted well from a defensive point.

"We should have scored a second goal to kill it, but didn't. Then we put ourselves in a position where we have to fight, but we did. The last few crosses were an image of how competitive the game was."

United have now lost just one of their last 25 matches against Burnley in all competitions.
