David Moyes: 'I want more from Adnan Januzaj'

Sunderland manager David Moyes challenges loan signing Adnan Januzaj to demonstrate his "Manchester United quality".

Sunderland manager David Moyes has challenged loan signing Adnan Januzaj to show his "Manchester United quality" in his performances for the side.

The 21-year-old winger, who is on a season-long loan from Old Trafford, has scored just once in nine appearances so far for the Black Cats.

Moyes gave Januzaj his first break during his ill-fated tenure in charge of the Red Devils and has called on the youngster to step up and prove his ability.

"Adnan's general fitness is low and I want more from him," Moyes told reporters. "But his goal in midweek [for the Under-23s] showed his ability. If he wants to go back and play for Manchester United he has to show it here.

"How does he get recognised? Get the assists and the goals on the board. I know he has Manchester United quality so he has to show everyone at Sunderland he has got this. Jermain [Defoe] can be individual and score. Adnan, if you are individual, what is it that you do? Cut in and shoot, get to the byline and cross. I wasn't seeing either and I am not yet.

"We are needing good performances and good decisions and to score and make goals, but I do think Adnan is more than capable. He has great quality, great ability and I don't think he has shown enough of it since he has been here."

Sunderland will aim to get themselves closer to escaping the relegation zone when they welcome faltering champions Leicester City to the North-East this afternoon.
