Sunderland's Gus Poyet backs Ryan Giggs to become Manchester United manager

Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet believes that Ryan Giggs should be appointed permanent Manchester United manager.

Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet believes that there is no reason why Ryan Giggs should not be given a chance to manage Manchester United on a permanent basis.

The former Wales international was handed the interim role for the final four games of the season following David Moyes's exit last week.

While there has been widespread backing for Giggs, numerous reports have claimed that Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal is expected to be named United's new manager next week ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.

Prior to Sunderland's match against United on Saturday, when asked if Giggs could be named permanent boss, Poyet told reporters: "Why not? He knows the club, he knows the players, he knows what is needed."

Giggs told reporters today that he is yet to make a decision with regards to his long-term future at Old Trafford.
