Stoke City boss Tony Pulis believes that his side's arduous Carling Cup match will benefit Manchester United ahead of their Premier League clash.

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis believes that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be “rubbing his hands” ahead of their Premier League clash after extra time and penalties saw off Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling Cup third round.

The Potters go head to head with Premier League champions United this weekend after defeating Spurs 7-6 on penalties at the Britannia Stadium.

"The big thing is that we won in the end," Pulis told the club’s official website. "Had we gone through all that and lost, then the players would have been on a big downer.

"One thing is for sure, Sir Alex Ferguson will be rubbing his hands at the fact that we've had to battle through extra time and penalties.”

Stoke will host the Red Devils on Saturday in the day’s evening kick off in the Premier League.
