Manchester United to be punished over late show

Manchester United will face a fine of at least £5,000 after arriving late for their game at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Manchester United will face a fine of at least £5,000 after arriving late for their game at Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

Kickoff in the game was postponed by half an hour after the United coach took two hours to travel a distance of eight miles from the team hotel to White Hart Lane.

According to Premier League rules, teams will be punished £5,000 if they directly cause a kickoff to be delayed by 15 minutes or less and face a disciplinary hearing if the delay is more than 15 minutes.

United's delayed arrival was initially due to heavy traffic in London but was reportedly exacerbated further by the coach driver attempting to take an alternative route that included a low tunnel that the vehicle was unable to fit through.

Spurs went on to win the encounter courtesy of three goals in six second-half minutes.
