Team News: Jan Vertonghen back for Tottenham Hotspur

Jan Vertonghen returns from a three-month layoff as Tottenham Hotspur welcome Manchester United.

Jan Vertonghen has returned from a three-month layoff with a knee injury as Tottenham Hotspur welcome Manchester United to White Hart Lane this afternoon.

The Belgian displaces Kevin Wimmer at the heart of the Spurs defence in one of two changes from the side that managed a 1-1 draw at Liverpool last time out.

Erik Lamela also comes back into the XI as Son Heung-min drops to the bench. Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen link up with Lamela as a three-pronged support for Harry Kane, who claimed the crucial equaliser at Anfield.

For Louis van Gaal's visitors, there is just one change from the side that edged past Everton last weekend, with Timothy Fosu-Mensah's impressive showing earning him a start ahead of Matteo Darmian.

Marcus Rashford continues to lead the line, with support from Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.

Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Dembele; Lamela, Eriksen, Alli; Kane

Manchester United: De Gea; Fosu-Mensah, Smalling, Blind, Rojo; Schneiderlin, Carrick; Mata, Lingard, Martial; Rashford
