Louis van Gaal: 'Angel di Maria has been disappointing'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal admits that he has been disappointed with the performances of Angel di Maria this season.

Louis van Gaal has conceded that Angel di Maria has had a disappointing first season at Manchester United.

The Red Devils smashed their transfer record to sign the Argentine in a £59.7m deal from Real Madrid last summer.

However, the 27-year-old has failed to live up to expectations and has spent the past month of the season out of the starting lineup since being sent off in the club's FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Arsenal.

"He cannot say that he has had a marvellous season here," Van Gaal told reporters.

"Normally Di Maria should have played, but the last weeks he doesn't play anymore and the team is winning. Now, we are losing, so the chance of him coming back is higher. It is always like that. It is never that it is not like that.

"The issue that he is not always in the line-up is for him a disappointment, but also for me a disappointment."

Di Maria has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer following his underwhelming campaign with United.
