Louis van Gaal: 'I am one of world's best managers'

In a bid to defend his reputation, Manchester United's under pressure boss Louis van Gaal says that he is "one of the best managers of the world".

Louis van Gaal has hit out at the journalists who have suggested that he will be sacked as Manchester United manager in the summer.

The Dutchman's reputation has taken a battering for much of the season as the Red Devils struggle to secure Champions League football for 2016-17.

In turn, Jose Mourinho has been heavily linked with his job, but in a staunch defence of himself, the self-confessed arrogant 64-year-old insisted that he is one of the best managers in world football.

"When the media is writing for six months I am sacked already, I can cope with that. It is not new for me. For my players, it is not so easy," he said at the club's Player of the Season event.

"They are reading every day. What do you think about my authority? What do you think about the way they want to follow my advice, when their coach is showed like a nobody because I cannot do anything?

"But I am not like that. I am very arrogant. I am one of the best managers of the world."

United are four points adrift of rivals Manchester City, who currently occupy fourth spot.
