Louis van Gaal defends Marouane Fellaini after Robert Huth incident

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal defends Marouane Fellaini after the midfielder aimed an elbow at Robert Huth during the 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has moved to defend Marouane Fellaini after the Belgian clashed with Leicester City defender Robert Huth.

The pair were involved in an altercation in the Leicester penalty area before Huth pulled Fellaini's hair, resulting in the Belgian retaliating with an elbow.

The incident was missed by the referee leaving the pair open to the possibility of retrospective action from the Football Association, but after the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, Van Gaal claimed that United should have been awarded a penalty.

The Dutchman told BBC Sport: "It was a very difficult match for the referee - when you see what Huth is doing with Fellaini, is that not a penalty? Every human being who is grabbed with their hair would react."

The point for United is enough for them to regain fifth position in the table from West Ham United.
