Team News: Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney dropped to bench for Leicester City clash

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is dropped to the bench for this afternoon's clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has been dropped to the bench for this afternoon's clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old's lacklustre form has forced manager Jose Mourinho to take him out of the starting lineup, instead opting for Jesse Lingard.

The Portuguese coach has made four changes to the side that lost to Watford in their last league outing as Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Lingard come into the fold.

Marouane Fellaini and Rooney drop to the bench as a result, while Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial miss out altogether because of injuries.

There is also no place for Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the squad, and Michael Carrick has to settle for a place in the substitutes list, despite impressing in EFL Cup earlier this week.

As for Leicester, manager Claudio Ranieri has kept the same XI that sealed a 3-0 victory over Burnley last weekend.

Ron-Robert Zieler starts in goal once again as Kasper Schmeichel faces a three-week layoff with a muscle injury.
