Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to brush off David de Gea's error against Everton, insisting that the goalkeeper remains the 'best in the world'

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that David de Gea remains "the best goalkeeper in the world".

During the early stages of Sunday's meeting with Everton, De Gea sent a clearance straight against Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the ball ricocheting into the net.

However, after De Gea made important saves later in the contest at Goodison Park, Solskjaer heaped praise on his number one.

The Norwegian is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying: "I trust David 100%. He made amends by saving [Gylfi] Sigurdsson's shot at the end and it showed that David is the best goalkeeper in the world.

"It's something that happens in football once in a while if you take too long on the ball. Calvert-Lewin always chases everything and it's unfortunate that it goes in the goal. We responded and got the goal we deserved."

The 1-1 draw ensured that United remain in fifth position in the Premier League standings.
