Terry Gibson: 'Real Madrid should sell Cristiano Ronaldo'

Real Madrid would "be better off taking the big money" for Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Terry Gibson.

Former Manchester United striker Terry Gibson has insisted that Real Madrid would benefit from selling Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese attacker has scored 288 goals in 279 appearances for Los Blancos since his £80m arrival from United in the summer of 2009.

However, Gibson believes that the 30-year-old's "obsession with his own achievements" has started to have a negative impact on his teammates at the Bernabeu.

"I think his individual obsession with his own achievements is hindering the performance of the Real Madrid team. They can't find the system that suits all the players that they've got," he told Revista de la Liga.

"We're talking one star player and just below that we're talking about other world-class players such as Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale.

"This list goes on but he is above them. I just think they would be better off taking the big money they would still get for him, re-investing it in other world-class players and I think they might be a better team for it."

Ronaldo has long been linked with a return to Old Trafford, although his agent Jorge Mendes recently claimed that his client would end his career in the Spanish capital.
