Dean Henderson will battle David de Gea for the number one goalkeeping spot at Manchester United next season, according to a report.

Dean Henderson will reportedly go head-to-head with David de Gea next season in the battle for the number one goalkeeping spot at Manchester United.

De Gea has found it difficult to show his best form over the last couple of seasons and made some high-profile mistakes in the latter stages of the 2020-21 campaign.

Henderson, though, has excelled on loan at Sheffield United over the last two years and has recently signed a new five-year contract with the 20-time English champions.

There has been talk of the 23-year-old also spending next season on loan, but according to the Manchester Evening News, the England international will battle De Gea for the gloves next term.

The report claims that Henderson 'has not been assured of starting the season' but will be given a fair chance of displacing De Gea between the sticks.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will open their 2020-21 Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on September 19 before finishing the month away to Brighton & Hove Albion on September 26.
