With Jadon Sancho having featured for Borussia Dortmund in a friendly on Wednesday afternoon, nothing is seemingly in the offing with regards to a transfer to Manchester United.

Given the current financial climate, the Europa League semi-finalists are now giving serious thought to making alternative additions.

Club officials are also having to weigh up potential incomings and outgoings in other areas at a time when they are deliberating over whether to hand a new contract to a star player.

Manchester United 'to prioritise Donny van de Beek over Jack Grealish'

For the most part of 2020, United have been heavily linked with an approach for Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish.

However, while the Englishman helped keep the West Midlands side in the Premier League, it has only increased the chances of another season at his boyhood club.

With Villa refusing to budge on a valuation well in excess of £50m, the Evening Standard suggests that United are ready to switch their attention to Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Although the Netherlands international is less versatile than Grealish, the 23-year-old arguably provides better value for money in the current financial climate.

Van de Beek, who has two years left on his contract, contributed eight goals and six assists from 23 outings in the Eredivisie last season.

With Dortmund playing hardball over the future of Sancho, United have little option but to consider alternatives to the England international.

If reports are to be believed, the Premier League outfit are prepared to contemplate a bid for out-of-favour Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

Due to the Frenchman not having played a competitive game since November due to injury, there is a feeling that terms can be successfully negotiated.

However, according to Sport, Barcelona are still looking to recoup £81.4m, whether that be in 2020 or in 12 months time after a loan deal.

Paul Pogba 'happy at Manchester United and open to signing new deal'

Since June 2019, there has been the expectation that Paul Pogba would eventually leave Manchester United for either Juventus or Real Madrid.

However, the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic have effectively ended any chance of either club spending big on the World Cup winner this summer.

Nevertheless, since the resumption of action in June, Pogba has made a positive impression in the starting lineup after his recovery from an ankle problem.

According to Sky Sports News, there is now a growing belief that the 27-year-old will hold positive discussions regarding the extension of his contract.

While the playmaker has under 11 months remaining on his current deal, United hold the option to extend it by a further year.
