Manchester United are reportedly considering a fresh bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, with the January transfer window set to shut on Friday.
The Old Trafford club are yet to make a new signing this month and currently sit fifth in the Premier League table.
According to The Guardian, United will return with a new bid before Friday after they had an initial £38m bid rejected, with negotiations set to intensify before Friday.
Sporting are said to value Fernandes at around £72m, but United are still in contact and hope to improve their bid this week.
The 25-year-old has been in prolific form this season, managing eight Primeira Liga goals and seven assists.
United, on the other hand, have struggled for goals from central midfield, with Scott McTominay their top scorer from that position with three in the Premier League.
