Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville says that "contrary to reports", if given the chance, he would re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid "tomorrow".

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has insisted that he would sign Cristiano Ronaldo "tomorrow" given the option.

Neville was quoted in a recent interview playing down Man United's reported pursuit of their former player, who has been strongly linked with a move away from the Bernabeu in recent weeks.

The former England defender has hinted that his words were taken out of context, with the interview stating that Gareth Bale would be a better signing than Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, 30, scored 118 times in 292 appearances for Man United between 2003 and 2009, before moving on to Real Madrid, where he has netted 326 goals in just 315 games.
